I read so many books in 2023! I feel like I talked enough about all the books I read in my previous posts, so now I want to talk about what I'm most excited to read in 2024.

January

Interesting Facts About Space by Emily Austin, 1/30
This was an ARC I snatched, and it's next on my to-do list! I know nothing about it but it looks weird and interesting. We will see if it holds up. I also have ARCs for Don't Want You Like A Best Friend and That Time I Got Drunk And Saved a Demon but something in me says "no, these books are not what you want to read right now." So I'm procrastinating.

February

ASAP by Axie Oh, 2/6
Axie Oh is one of the really fun kpop romance writers. (There aren't many. I've read them all.) Her previous book, XOXO was a delightful YA romp about a violinist who meets and starts dating her idol classmate. It's cute and charming and fun, and unlike most of the YA kpop books on the market...it's not about a girl who wants to be an idol. ASAP marks her return to that universe, and I'm excited to hop back in!

Fox Wife by Yangsze Choo, 2/13
I adored The Ghost Bride, which is a classic fairytale like fantasy, and loved The Night Tiger, so I'm excited to see what Choo does next! All of her books so far have been set in the same universe, with vague references going back to the others. I'm hoping to see more from the characters in The Ghost Bride, who I got really attached to. Either way, I'm sure I'll love this book.

The Warm Hands of Ghosts by Katherine Arden, 2/13
Another classic fairytale writer. Arden previously wrote The Winter Night trilogy, which was based on Russian Folklore. I loved book one, but fell off before completing it. I'm hoping to get back to them, but in the meantime, this ghost story looks beautiful.

Snow Globe by Soyoung Park, 2/27
This is a Korean YA novel that's being translated to English for the first time, and it looks fun! About a post-earth crisis world where everything is frozen, everyone wants to look into the the snowglobe, the city center which is warm, privileged, and broadcast live for everyone to see. It's being compared to The Hunger Games (I see it) and Squid Games, because anything survivalish that comes out of Korea is being compared to Squid Games at the moment. Honestly, to me I think Snowpiercer would be a more apt comparison. Anyway, this looks FUN, and the promo was nice. IDK, I liked the Hunger Games and sometimes a girl wants a dystopic YA!

April

Late Bloomer by Mazey Eddings, 4/16
This book looks like soapy tropey sapphic fun. I have nothing to say. I have never read anything by this author but this looks delightful. And the cover is so pretty? No brain, only buzzing.

Otherwordly by F. T. Lukens, 4/2
Lukens gets SUCH pretty covers. That's what drew me to them in the first place, how pretty their books were! I kept seeing them in stores, so when I started at the store and saw their book on the ARC shelf, I SNATCHED IT. I thought that book, Spell Bound, was dreck at first. And then I fell in love. It's the exact opposite of White's book (talked about later in this post) in that it's queer trans YA that highlights love, joy and youth, while White's books dig into grit and misery, but they're sweet and fun, and I'm looking forward to hopping into this pretty looking book.

Funny Story by Emily Henry, 4/23
I don't love Henry's books. They're fun, light romps, but I do think she's getting better! Book Lovers and Happy Place were definitely my favorites by her, and I love having this thing I share with my coworker and my sister in law, so I look forward to snagging her books every year.

May

Lies and Weddings by Kevin Kwan, 5/21
I LOVE Kevin Kwan's books. Crazy Rich Asians and it's sequel were so fun, though he lost me a bit on book three of that trilogy, and I adored Sex and Vanity. They are perfect, gossipy beach reads! I requested an arc of this, and I really hope I get it. If not, I'm definitely going to buy it! This comes out right as my classes are going to end, so it will be a great mental break for me.

August

The Pairing by Casey MacQuiston 8/6
I loved loved loved One Last Stop. I never by special editions of books I already own - I rarely care about what edition I get at all. But I snapped up the special edition of One Last Stop immediately! I also loved Red White and Royal Blue, so I'm looking forward to Macquiston's return to adult fiction this year!

September

Right Hand (Hench 2) By Natalie Zina Walschotts, 9/15
I SHRIEKED when this was announced. I loved loved loved Hench, which I read on the plane on the way back from KCon. I woke Ace up to scream about it. I am absolutely requesting an arc, as soon as a cover is announced. I'm thrilled to be able to dive back into this world!

Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White 9/3
I didn't mean to fall in love with Andrew Joseph White. I actually just picked up his book because we had copies in the store, and I wanted to flip through all the fantasy books we had to see how they started. I flipped two pages, and locked down. For the two days I read it, my coworkers graciously left me alone to devour it. I bought it for as many friends as I could get away with. I know he has an existing novel I haven't gotten my filthy paws on yet, but I'm thrilled to see another coming out so soon. I'm definitely requesting an arc, again as soon as it has a cover.

There are so many good books coming out, and I also have a STACK of ARCs I have to get through. So naturally I'm on rotten behavior, and I've dived into a series that came out in 2006. Tell my boss I'm sorry! Anyway, hope you find something fun to read in this stack. Are you looking forward to any 2024 releases?
