So last night I was able to go to Ateez's current tour! It was a VERY last minute decision: I was only able to convince my mom yesterday morning to go with me, and I am glad I did - we both had a really good time. She really did not want to go, but she agreed that they were amazing performers, and also was very very impressed by the lightsticks (LOL).
So quick on the lightiny 2.0, since for my mom it was the highlight of the show: they sync now! So the audience was part of one big light show. I have the lightiny 1.0, which I LOVE but did not bring, since we weren't planning on going, and I really wish I had it with me! Oh well. Next time.
BUT ANYWAY! So basically: When the tour was announced, I wasn't planning on going. No shows ever come to my hometown, so I always have to travel to go to them, and after a year of travel, I was pretty exhausted. But as it turned out: We would be in ATL anyway for Thanksgiving. If I was going to be in the city, I had to go, and I wanted Mom to come with me - she has watched Ateez's concert DVDs and liked them, so I knew she would like the show. She did not want to come. Her first complaint was a language barrier complaint - but Ateez actually speaks a lot of English at their shows, so that was shut down. Then it was wanting my SIL (who would hate it...) to come, then it was traffic, and ticket prices, and stairs...
Yesterday morning, I showed her affordable tickets, and I think she finally understood how much I wanted to go and caved. So we went!!!!!
I will spare you the details on traffic in ATL, but rest assured it was atrocious.
Getting into the venue was an actual breeze though! We didn't run into any issues until we got to our seats, and y'all this was a new one for me: the 200 level seats at the State Farm Arena are STEEP. There is no leg room. Looking down from there was causing me to panic, and I actually really love heights! I felt like I was going to tumble down the balcony and die.
Thankfully, Mom talked to an usher who found two lovely girls in the wheelchair accessible section (no wheelchair users in this section at all but it was accessible ish?) who were happy to trade seats with us. These seats were higher up, and meant anything happening on the main stage was directly blocked by the lighting rig, but we had a table in front of us, and I no longer thought I would fall to my death.
It also gave us a bird's eye view of the front stage? I don't know the name parts but the stage after the catwalk? So we could see all the shapes the choreo formed, so that was really cool.
Ok, enough about the venue xD
On to the experience!
Unlike any kpop concert I have ever seen, they had an opener! KQ Fellaz 2 had a cute little video introducing them, and performed two songs. I think the songs were original? They were cute! I know Ateez lost a member between debut and KQ Fellaz, but it seemed to me this was going to be their final lineup, especially since they were touring and had their own songs/choreo. I know nothing here, I will have to look it up later. But that was a lot of fun.
They also didn't play music videos before the concert, but it didn't start long after KQ Fellaz 2, so!
Ateez as always was just so. Frickin. Good. Their live vocals are incredible, and Jongho and Mingi in particular were just. Astounding. Jongho belts so loud I doubt he needs a microphone! He was giving it his all. Also Mingi had a really sexy growl? I just melted.
Yunho, my original bias, also sounded amazing! After Jongho, he had the best vocals of the night - the most consistent.
I also want to give credit to San, who is a stage demon. He is so good. His stage presence is just phenomenal.
They all were just REALLY good, and in really high spirits, joking and teasing and laughing. I was worried they would be tired, because it's been a pretty busy year for them, but it really seems like it just gave them energy! When we saw them in January they were phenomenal - but this time around they were glowing. They truly have hit their stride and you could tell they were all having a really good time.
Ateez is solidly a live performance group, and this whole concert highlighted that. Since they toured earlier this year, and only released one EP between, they didn't have a ton of new songs to mix up the set list with. Instead, they performed a bunch of remixes and b-sides, and they totally sold me on songs I have never cared about before in my life. (They did this in January, too.) There are just some songs were the album version is...fine, and then the stage performance is out of this world.
Particular highlights for me were all off of their most recent release, though. Sector 1, which is a great track, was early in the setlist, and that was gorgeous. The Ring was also just phenomenal. I won't lie, I was raised on the Lord of the Rings movies - and my whole family watched Rings of Power. So that song speaks to me on a personal level, and seeing a stage for it was just incredible. I am actually listening to the song now, as I am typing this.
And then of COURSE, the stage for my beloved, Cyberpunk! Oh MY GOD. San! SAN! And MINGI! I do not have coherent thoughts about this stage. I am obsessed. I love it SO much. I had looked up a stage for it before hand, and actually had been disappointed with what I saw. I had been willing to give up going over this, like OK, if they don't do my beloved Cyberpunk justice I will be OK if I miss this concert. There will be others. And then. AND THEN! It was just the highlight of the show. It was so GOOD. Everyone was amazing. Everyone was a demon. I will Once More be buying the concert DVD for this tour, and tHIS IS WHY.
(Sidenote but I DO love having concert dvds for shows I have seen, especially Ateez, because they are so freaking good onstage. I like having them on in the background while I get other things done! I also wish they would release a live album as well as the DVD but alas.)
Anyway! The whole freaking concert was incredible. If Ateez is going to be anywhere near you, I def rec snagging seats if you can! They are such strong, energetic performers, and they are just getting better.

Date: 2022-11-23 02:35 pm (UTC)My current bias is Mingi! I got into them via Imitation when Mingi was on hiatus, and I loved Yunho in that. But then Mingi returned and it was all over for me.
I hope you can see them soon!!!!
