2023 Writing Review!

kpopwinemom2023 was the first year I spent any time tracking my writing. Originally, I intended to track how much I wrote each day, but actually I found that... I hate that. I hate tracking writing word count. When I finally got into the habit of logging a word count each day, it was for NaNo in November. I'll talk more about that in a bit! But anyway, this is a summary of all the writing I did this year.
Just now, when I sat down to write this post, I decided to check on the number of works that I posted every year since I made an Ao3 account, and I was surprised by what I found! While I knew this year I wrote more than I had in years prior (I posted 14 total works across three accounts) I was surprised to see that in 2022, I posted 11 works! This was more than double then the number of works I posted in 2021, which was only 2022 works. I'll post a chart of the number works I completed each year at the bottom of this!
That just covers the number of works I posted or updated. One work in particular has been in progress since 2021! I didn't realize it had been so long since I started that fic, and this year I do intend to double down and finish it. I had been updating regularly but when I gave two back to back updates, I got less comments on the second, and decided the readers needed to wait a bit. Anyway, this particular fic has been counted three times, since I made updates (multiple new chapters posted) each year. This also doesn't take into account how many total words I posted each year, since I didn't track that until this year. I also want to clarify it's not the sum total of words I wrote - it only includes fic I posted on AO3, and incomplete fics and my original work did not count toward that total.
In 2023, I published 80,881 words! Like I said, I don't have a comparison for previous years. This also doesn't take into account the approximate 25,000+ words that I wrote on my original novel, or any incomplete fics. Off the top of my head, I have about 4k of incomplete fics sitting in my docs!
This was my year of taking on new challenges! I wrote my longest fic yet while participating in my first big bang! I also participated in Yuletide for the first time, and wrote 2 different NCT Rarepair fest fics!
I think the bulk of my writing though, and what I personally am most pleased with, were the fics I wrote and posted on my sideblog. These were all things I wrote just to have fun and play with, with no intent for anyone to see them. One of them ended up becoming the most popular thing I've written all year, and I did not expect that at all. I'm so thrilled to see it's warm reception, and I'll definitely have to write more for them in the future.
This year, I have a ton of projects I want to work on! I need to return to my novel, and really double down on rewriting it so I can begin querying it. I also have a ton of fannish projects I want to complete! I have a few longer fics I'd like to work on, and of course the shorter, fun three in progress. Hopefully I find a way to get them all out there!

*2 secret projects that will be posted on my side blog. Sorry to be vague! One day I'll be less shy about my sideblog, but posting there has given me a lot of freedom in what I write. Knowing people don't really realize the extent of exactly how many times I've written the same tropes lets me try them on again and again until I find the shape I want.
*A birthday gift for Ace!
*My original novel
*My Doyoung omegaverse fic that I passed off for the BB last year...this year I want to tell it.
